Oakland Family Housing Act 2006:

The Oakland Family Housing Act is being put forward by Oaklanders for Affordable Housing, a coalition of community, faith, labor, environmental and housing organizations. When passed, the Oakland Family Housing Act would ensure that 20% of ALL new housing developments in Oakland are made accessible to custodians, teachers, hotel workers, firefighters and policemen.

The need for affordable housing is one of the top concerns of Oakland voters. Two out of three voters would support requiring that 20% of the homes and apartments in new developments be affordable.  This is a policy solution that has worked in over 100 jurisdictions in California.
